Gwangju Art Biennale

On a recommendation from friends, Alex and I ventured to Gwangju's Art Biennale, and now we can officially recommend it, too! Here are some photo highlights.

It's difficult to discern from a photo, but this was an elaborate full-size room, encompassed in twine that made an intricate web. The construction and vision were breathtaking. Charred furniture and instruments.  "In Silence" by Chiharu Shiota

I loved the meditative feeling of this installation.

I could've stared for hours. by Hiroshi Senju

Part of a larger and VERY ornate canvas. by Raqib Shaw

Serenity in the midst of this high tech installation, which included cameras on all sides capturing the still Buddha as people took in "Space Baby" in the round.  by Michael Joo

"Waste Not" This entire installation was painstaking recreation of the artist's mother's home. A hoarder's home in China.  This is a detailed picture. I recommend internet searches for a broader look.  by Song Dong
